'Ballet Shoes' by Noel Streatfeild

Weekly Topic: What books are you reading right now and recommending

'Ballet Shoes' is a book I loved a lot when I was a child, and it is very enjoyable even for adults.
It was published in 1936, so it is an old book! But the English is still clear and easy to understand.

The story is about three young sisters, Pauline, Petrova and Posy, who live in London. They all start classes at the Children's Academy of Dancing and Stage Training.  Each of them discovers their passion, Pauline loves acting, Posy is a talented ballet dancer and Petrova is interested in flying airplanes.

'Ballet Shoes' is a heart-warming story about family.  Is is also a good book to learn more cultural information about the UK.  It is set in the 1930s between World War One and Two, so the wars are mentioned in the story. And as it is set in London, you can learn more about life and attitudes in London in the 1930s.

The book was made into a movie in 2007, starring Emma Watson (famous for her Harry Potter role!) as one of the sisters. The movie is also a great watch!
