Kursinhalt

This is a free conversation class. We can talk freely or decide on a topic before the class. We can also use an article or picture to talk about.

I will write corrections and suggestions for other words in the Skype chat while you speak so as not to interrupt the conversation flow. I can also correct your pronunciation, sentence structure and grammar.

Here are some ideas:
  • Check in about your day: What were your top three goals this morning? Did you achieve them? If not, what happened? What are your priorities for tomorrow?
  • Family talk: Do you have young children? Tell me about their development, their likes and dislikes, something they did that made you happy today.
  • Photo album: Let's look at photos from your childhood, or photos of your kids or pets! We can practice common English phrases in a natural conversation talking about ourselves and others in the past.
  •  Accountability buddy: Do you have a creative or academic goal you're working on? Knitting a sweater, writing a PhD thesis or novel, learning a new musical instrument or other skill? We can talk about how much time you spend on your project each day or week, what is your greatest obstacle or challenge, what is going well or what makes you feel positive.
  • Supportive friendly chat: Vent about your day, your week, your job, etc. How do you feel? What is frustrating or upsetting you? Sometimes we don't need advice or solutions, we just need to complain safely so we can move on from an unpleasant experience.
  • Friendly conversation about life: Meet a friend and catch up quickly and informally. How have you been? What's been happening in your life? How's your family?
  • Pets: I love pets! I have a cat. Tell me about your pets - what do they look like, what cute or funny things they do, etc.
  • Photos/images: Bring a photo or an image of some art you love (or I can pick one) and we can talk about it. This is good to practice natural ways of describing things in English, and we can also talk about your impressions, thoughts, and feelings about things in the images.
  • Work: Talking about the workplace, job description, the people at work, project management, describing your office, job applications, interviewing in English, work communication in English (oral or written).
  • School/university: We can talk about your classes, your workload, your study habits, stationery, classmates, or projects!
  • Books: I love to read - you can describe books you love, and recommend them to me. Maybe we have some favourite books in common! I love Jane Austen, Dorothy L. Sayers, Agatha Christie, JK Rowling, Tolkein, CS Lewis, Joan Aiken, Neil Gaiman, and many children's authors from the 20th century. I love Banana Yoshimoto, but I have only read Kitchen and Moonlight Shadow several times (in English! Some day I hope to know enough Japanese to read novels in Japanese.).
I look forward to meeting you!
