What is Brambly Hedge?

Brambly Hedge is a world created by English artist and writer Jill Barklem. Her books tell stories of the mice who live in the hedge. The stories are strongly tied to nature and the seasons. Her illustrations are beautiful and full of details.

There are eight books in the series: Spring Story, Summer Story, Autumn Story, Winter Story, The Secret Staircase (takes place during the Winter Solstice celebrations), The High Hills (takes place at the end of autumn), Sea Story (takes place in summer), and Poppy's Babies (takes place at the beginning of summer).

 

I love books (paper books), but I also suggest getting these books in e-book format if it is available with audio (for example, here https://www.kobo.com/jp/ja/ebook/autumn-story-read-aloud-brambly-hedge). It's excellent to read along with the narrator and imitate his pronunciation and intonation.  

 

Who is this lesson suitable for?
This lesson is suitable for upper-intermediate to advanced students, both children and adults. This is a children's picture-book, but it is written for native speakers, so the language is authentic and colloquial. 

How will I benefit from this lesson?
By reading authentic children's books, you will expand your vocabulary, practice more complex sentence structures, and increase your experience with natural and colloquial English. As we read, we can talk about unfamiliar words and practice pronunciation. We can talk about what we see in the very detailed pictures and what's happening. This is excellent speaking practice, and can be as simple or as challenging as required for each student.

Please note: I can provide a few pages of the book to read together if you don't have a copy, but due to copyright issues, I can't share the entire book. Please take a trial lesson if you'd like to see if you enjoy the books and the lesson. If you like it, you can feel comfortable buying the books! ^^

Cancellation of pack lessons

• 'Unstarted' lesson packs(1) can be cancelled any time. Used Points will be completely refunded. If a 'started' lesson pack(2) is cancelled, you will be refunded 50% of the price of the remaining lessons provided that the lessons are unrequested, unconfirmed or not within 24 hours of their scheduled start times.
(1) A lesson pack for which none of the requests have been confirmed by the tutor.
(2) A lesson pack with at least one confirmed request. (By confirming the date and time for the first lesson in the pack the tutor confirms the pack as a whole and coupons are automatically issued)

Cancelling individual requests in a pack

• If you wish to cancel a single lesson that belongs to a pack but not the whole pack, you can do so via the request page. In this case, the coupon used to book the lesson will either be refunded or collected, based on the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy. Please note that any 50% partial refunds in the tutors single-lesson cancellation policy do not apply to lesson packs and the tutor may choose to either refund or collect the coupon in those cases.
