Objective: Students will learn how to describe physical appearances and personality traits using functional phrases through dialogues, guided practice, and role-play activities.

Lesson Outline

1. Warm-Up (5 minutes)

  • Objective: Engage the student and introduce the topic in a relatable way.
  • Greet the student:
“Hi! Today, we’re going to learn how to describe people. This will help you when talking about friends, family, or meeting new people.”
  • Ask an opening question to activate prior knowledge:
“Can you tell me about your best friend? What does he or she look like?”
(Guide them gently if needed: “For example, is he tall or short?”)

2. Vocabulary and Key Phrases (10 minutes)

  • Objective: Teach and reinforce descriptive vocabulary and functional phrases.
  1. Introduce Key Questions
Write or share the functional phrases:

    • “What does he/she look like?” (for physical appearance).
    • “What is he/she like?” (for personality).
  2. Teach Vocabulary
Use visuals or flashcards/dialogues to introduce:

    • Physical Descriptions: tall, short, thin, heavy, curly hair, straight hair, blue eyes, glasses, etc.
    • Personality Descriptions: kind, friendly, shy, funny, serious, etc.
  3. Dialogue Practice

    • Read aloud and share this dialogue:

    • Encourage the student to create their own sentences:
“Sarah is short, has curly hair, and is very kind.”
