Lesson Breakdown
1. Warm-up & Small Talk (5 minutes)
📌 Objective: Help the student feel comfortable and practice casual professional conversation.
🔹 Activities:
- Greet the student and ask open-ended questions:
- “How has your day been so far?”
- “What have you been working on recently?”
- “Have you had any meetings or presentations this week?”
- Teach small talk techniquesin business settings:
- Talking about the weather, weekend plans, or company events.
- Using polite phrases: “It’s nice to meet you,” “I hope you’re having a great day.”
- Encourage natural responses (instead of “yes” or “no” answers).
🔹 Correction & Feedback:
- Correct pronunciation errors subtly.
- Encourage use of complete sentences.
2. Business Vocabulary & Key Phrases (10 minutes)
📌 Objective: Introduce and practice essential business vocabulary and expressions.
🔹 Vocabulary Focus (Customized to Student’s Work Field if Possible)
- Workplace Communication
- “Let’s schedule a meeting.”
- “I’ll follow up on that.”
- “Can we discuss this in more detail?”
- Polite Requests & Professional Tone
- “Would it be possible to…”
- “Could you clarify that for me?”
- “I appreciate your help.”
- Common Business Idioms & Expressions
- “Let’s touch base later.” (Follow up later)
- “We’re on the same page.” (We agree)
- “This project is a top priority.” (Most important task)
🔹 Activity:
- Drill practice – Student repeats phrases and uses them in a short sentence.
- Sentence completion– Give student a sentence with a missing word. Example:
- “Let’s ____ (schedule/plan/arrange) a meeting next week.”
- Real-life application – Ask: “Can you use ‘touch base’ in a sentence?”
🔹 Correction & Feedback:
- Focus on pronunciation and natural intonation.
- Correct common mistakes and offer alternative ways to phrase sentences.
3. Business Role-Play & Practical Speaking Practice (15 minutes)
📌 Objective: Simulate real business conversations and improve fluency.
🔹 Scenario-Based Role-Plays (Choose 1–2 Based on Student’s Needs)

- Practice a self-introduction including job title, responsibilities, and company background.
- Example structure:
- “Hello, my name is ___. I work as a __ at ___. I’m responsible for ___. Nice to meet you!”
- Challenge: Expand the introduction with more details.

- Practice a business phone call (customer inquiry, setting a meeting, or reporting an issue).
- Example:

- Student explains a simple business topic (e.g., their role, a recent project).
- Use business vocabulary and full sentences.
- Challenge: Answer one or two follow-up questions.

4. Fluency & Confidence-Building Exercise (5 minutes)
📌 Objective: Encourage quick thinking and natural speaking.

- Discuss one area for improvement and one strength.
🔹 Assign Homework (Optional, Based on Student Interest)
- Listening Exercise – Watch a short business-related video and note down new phrases.
- Speaking Practice – Record a short introduction or role-play response.
- Vocabulary Review – Write sentences using 3 new phrases from the lesson.
