Russian for Medical Purposes: The Respiratory System & Patient Communication (Level A1-A2)

This specialized lesson is tailored for international medical students and healthcare professionals beginning their Russian language journey. We will delve into the "Scientific Style of Speech" (научный стиль речи) focusing on basic anatomy and, crucially, how to communicate with patients.   

Who is this lesson for? Level: A1-A2 (Beginner / Pre-Intermediate).

  • Medical students planning to study or practice in Russian-speaking countries.

  • Professionals who need to understand basic medical terminology and engage in essential patient communication.

What will we cover?

  1. Anatomical Vocabulary: Learn the Russian names for key organs of the respiratory system: лёгкие (lungs), трахея (trachea), бронхи (bronchi), нос (nose), and their functions.      

  2. Scientific Verbs and Structures: Master verbs related to the breathing process (breathe, inhale, exhale) and learn to describe functions using standard medical phrases such as "...serves to..." (serves to...).  

  3. Patient Communication: Practice simple dialogues between doctor and patient. Learn to ask patients basic questions about their health ("What's hurting you?", "What are you complaining about?", "What's bothering you?") and understand their typical responses.Reading Practice: We will work with adapted m  

    edical texts.

  4. A basic knowledge of the Russian alphabet and the ability to read simple words is required. No prior medical knowledge in Russian is necessary — we start from the fundamentals, focusing on both medical language and practical communication!
