Stage Aim 3:
The teacher explains the difference between count and non-count nouns.  You can use a number in front of count nouns, but you cannot use a number in front of non-count nouns.

The teacher explains the rules on how to use the articles (a, an, the, and some) with count and non-count nouns.

The teacher explains how to quantify non-count nouns by adding additional words to them such as: a cup of, a glass of, a bowl of, a pound of, a pint of, a ton of, etc.

Stage Aim 4:
The teacher shows the student a five examples of non-count nouns and five examples of count nouns in the PowerPoint presentation.  The teacher then mixes up the order of the words and asks the student which ones are count or non-count nouns.

Stage Aim 5:
The teacher shows 20 to 30 random terms individually in the PowerPoint presentation and asks the student to indicate which words are count or non-nouns.

Stage Aim 6:
The teacher and the student will engage in a role play to check the student’s understanding of today’s lesson.  The student and teacher assume the role of next-door neighbors and the student asks to borrow items that are either count or non-count nouns from the teacher.  The student must use the correct article with the noun based on whether it is count or non-count.

Stage Aim 7:
The student participates in a fluency exercise in which he or she describes what items he or she has in his/her kitchen or pantry using count and non-count nouns correctly.

Stage Aim 8:
The teacher concludes the lesson and assigns homework.  The teacher asks the student concept questions to verify the student’s understanding of the lesson and the instructions for homework.
