Guam Lifestyle Lesson: How to Make Guam Empanadas
30 minutes
Objective: Students will learn how to make Guam Empanadas and will discuss in English their opinion and application of what they have learned from the videos they watched in class.
- Teacher will show videos of How to Make Guam Empanadas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xjbstqwh_0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8QaZ_gLRmU and/or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nhpDXxbWLw
- Teacher will Introduce ingredients of Guam Empanadas and review the action verbs for cooking Guam Empanadas in English using a a dry erase board and the internet.
Teacher will discuss in English the unique ingredients and possible places in Japan or another foreign country where they can get these ingredients. Explain to the student where I get the ingredients and the prices of the ingredients.
- Teacher, if possible, will show a frozen piece of empanada on live camera so the student will have a visual understanding of the size, shape, and texture of a frozen Guam empanada.
- Student will create a paragraph in English describing what snacks and drinks they would eat with Guam Empanadas. Students will imagine and describe if they would like to try eating a Guam Empanada — why or why not? Students will ask the question whether or not they have eaten anything similar before?
- Student will read and share their paragraph with the teacher using English. Question and Answer Discussion will follow.
