Advanced conversational English with a qualified TEFL, piano teacher and jazz musician
Kursinhalt
This is a lesson geared towards advanced English learners who want to improve their conversational English.
As an experienced English tutor I learned that possibly the most helpful thing for advanced students to do, as they progress towards fluency, is simply engage in conversation with a native speaker as much as possible. The best way to facilitate learning in this way is to speak about subjects we are passionate about.
As a jazz pianist myself, I'm passionate about the subject and I'm sure there are many advanced English learners out there who share this sentiment. When we're passionate about things we yearn to communicate effectively about how we feel about them.
So in this lesson we'll discuss the history of Jazz music, from it's roots in the Blues and Gospel traditions of the 19th Century, right through to the more familiar 'modern' sounds of Miles Davis, John Coltrane and the birth of the 'cool'.
Of course this subject is so vast that it doesn't even apply simply to music, it also takes you on a journey through history. We'll encounter not only the musical foundations of Jazz, but the political and societal environments that had a big role in the formation of this music form.
I have taught a lot of IELTS (the english testing system for UK university admission) and I know when to jump in to a conversation to address mistakes and correct grammar. Conversation is simply the best way of rooting out the most common habitual mistakes English learners make and set them on their path towards true proficiency.
So beat the blues and join me for a journey into one of the most fascinating cultural developments that has left a legacy worldwide!
