🕐 Lesson Breakdown
1. Warm-Up (10 minutes) – "Guess the Hobby"
Purpose: Activate prior knowledge & set the topic
Materials: Pictures or slides showing different hobbies (e.g., painting, gardening, hiking, cooking)
Procedure:

Show each picture and ask:
“What hobby is this?”
“Do you like this hobby?” -
Encourage short discussion
2. Vocabulary Presentation (15 minutes) – "Let’s Talk Hobbies"
Purpose: Introduce and practice hobby-related vocabulary
Target Vocabulary (examples):
painting, cooking, gardening, hiking, reading, swimming, playing chess, photography, dancing, collecting, watching movies, playing guitar
Procedure:

Present words with visuals or examples.

Have students match words to pictures or definitions.

Practice pronunciation and stress (e.g., pho-TO-gra-phy).

Write a few example sentences together:

“I enjoy reading.”

“My hobby is playing guitar.”

3. Controlled Practice (10 minutes) –
Purpose: Practice using new vocabulary and frequency adverbs
Instructions:
Have a guided discussion on hobbies and encourage follow- up questions.
4. Speaking Practice (15 minutes) – "Hobby Interview"
Purpose: Develop fluency using vocabulary in context
Instructions:

Student interviews you (or another student) about hobbies using a question list, e.g.:

How often do you do it?

Why do you enjoy it?

Is it expensive or easy to do?

Then swap roles — they answer using full sentences.
Optional extension:
Have them describe a hobby they would like to try and explain why.
5. Wrap-Up & Reflection (10 minutes) – Recap
Purpose: Consolidate learning

Review key vocabulary by playing a quick game like:

“Describe it, don’t say it” (you describe a hobby, student guesses)

“One-word challenge” (give one word, they guess the hobby)

Write 5 sentences about your favorite hobby using I like, I enjoy, I spend time, I’m into, I usually
