Elementary Level introduces you to Japanese texts and focuses on reading as well as speaking. Here, students are expected to watch Japanese shows/anime on regular basis and read children’s stories/folklore or manga outside the class. Since the students are already familiar with the basic grammar, they are encouraged to learn new vocabulary through reading and new grammar is introduced as we encounter them in the readings. Reading materials for each student are different – I will assign readings depending on the each student’s taste. This goes the same for the TV shows and anime as well. By the end of this level, students should be able to hold simple conversations more naturally. Also, some kanji characters are learned in this level as well.
