Idioms are difficult to master, but you'll find them everywhere in movies, books, and daily speech! Let's practice idioms in their natural contexts by using prepared roleplays and conversation!

Kursinhalt

English is hard, but idioms can be especially tricky to learn. In this lesson, we will look at prepared conversations that incorporate idioms as they would be used most naturally. Once you're familiar with the idioms and their meanings, we'll practice using them in conversation together. 

You can also bring in idioms and expressions that you want to learn, and I'll make example conversations for you on the spot!
 
Example of the class content:
 

Idioms 1:

A: Okay, so you know hot yoga, right?

B: Hot yoga, like… people doing yoga while it’s hot? Is that a thing?

A: Yeah, it’s gotten pretty popular recently actually. And all my friends are really into it, so I thought I might as well jump on the bandwagon, right? But as soon as I got into the room I was like “This is actually way too hot for me.”

B: So you wimped out.

A: Yeah, so I wimped out. I’ll just stick to regular yoga I guess.


C Is that a thing? *y = Does that exist? Is it popular now? 

C to be into something = to be excited about something

R to jump on the bandwagon = to join and do what everyone else is doing

R to wimp out = to act like a coward, be too afraid to do something

C to stick to something = to keep doing something, to only do that thing


A:あのさぁ、ホットヨガってあるじゃん？

B: ホットヨガって…暑いところでヨガをやるって感じのやつ？そんなのあったけ？

A:あるよ。最近人気になってるよ。で、私の友達もみんなハマってるからわたしもはやりに乗ってもいいかなと思ってたんだけど、実際に部屋に入ったら「いや、暑すぎだわ」って思っちゃった。

A: 逃げちゃったんだ。

B: そう、逃げちゃったの。まぁ、普通のヨガのままでいっか。
