Phonics Fun: S, A & T | Ages 4–5
Description
Let’s discover the sounds S, A and T! 🔤⭐
This 25-minute beginner phonics lesson is designed for young learners aged 4–5 who are beginning to recognise letter sounds and develop early reading skills.
We will focus on:
S – sun, snake, star
A – apple, ant, animal
T – tiger, top, train
Your child will practise letter–sound recognition, phonemic awareness, listening and pronunciation through colourful pictures, flashcards, actions and simple phonics games.
We will listen for the first sound in familiar words, match pictures to S, A or T, and practise saying each sound clearly.
When your child is ready, we will also begin putting the sounds together:
a + t = at
s + a + t = sat
My teaching approach is visual, interactive and encouraging. I use repetition, gestures, TPR (Total Physical Response) and game-based activities to keep young learners engaged while giving them plenty of opportunities to practise.
I first model each sound, we practise it together, and then I encourage the learner to recognise and say it independently.
We will finish with a fun “Find the Sound!” challenge to review what we have learned.
By the end of the lesson, your child will be more confident hearing, recognising and saying S, A and T, with an introduction to blending the sounds into simple words.
