CONFLICT RESOLUTION STYLES
Conflict resolution styles
Address the Conflict
Name the kinds of conflicts that arise in your workplace.
Ignoring a problem in the workplace may seem like a good idea.
When it comes to people's problems, ignoring them is rarely the right solution.
Listen to all parties concerned.
This reaction can cause the parties to feel bullied, forgotten, unimportant, and disgruntled.
Clarify the Issue Causing the Conflict
Take the time to find out exactly what's going on. Check your sources, and don't rely on the company rumor mill.
Bring the Involved Parties Together to Talk
To get to the root of the problem, you must go directly to the source: the two or more parties involved in the conflict. Be open and positive in your communication and encourage them to do the same.
Identify a Solution
Arrive at a solution acceptable to everyone involved. Emphasize the importance of a win-win scenario, where everyone keeps their job, and tension at work is reduced. Offer compromises or trade-offs.
Monitor and Follow Up
Follow-up is vital to good conflict resolution.
Is everyone abiding by the agreement? Are both parties satisfied with the outcome? Are boundaries being observed?
Conflict vocabulary
Students start with matching the relevant verbs to make common collocations (e.g. address an audience; to cast doubt etc. follow up with word list link).
