Hello. Nice to meet you! My name is Ayumi.
I am a half Japanese, half Mexican ballet dancer... and your language tutor!
I currently live in Japan, but I also spend a certain amount of time in Mexico every year.
≪Multilingual Background≫
I was born in Mexico and grew up as a Japanese and Spanish bilingual kid. However, when I was 14, I moved to the US and I spent my high school years there. After I graduated, started my undergraduate in Norway. My communication skills in English have become one of the important parts of my identity over the course of my life.
I am not even sure which language I am most good at communicating. But at least, I can tell you this; I read in English for my graduate courses all the time.
≪Ballet, Dance Science & Education ≫
I started taking ballet lessons in the Cuban method when I was very little.
While I was in the US, I was trained in the semi-pro dancers' program at San Francisco Ballet School. After I moved to Norway, I studied ballet at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. In college, studying human anatomy and dance history helped me cultivate my deeper understanding of dance. In 2017, I was one of the YAGP New York finalists.
After I graduated, I moved to Japan and studying for my online master’s degree program at the University of Edinburgh, while working both as a part-timer and a freelancer.
