Hello, my name is Samantha, but you can call me Sam, and I teach English!
About me:
I currently live in California, but I was born in Sasebo, Japan! Growing up in a military family, I had the opportunity to live in various places such as Guam, Hawaii, and Japan, which gave me the ability to appreciate other cultures. I graduated from University of California, Davis with a Bachelors in Psychology with an emphasis in Biology. I worked at a center that exclusively taught students with autism for two years. Most of the students are non-verbal, which have taught me the skills of patience and of thoroughly explaining concepts in a way the student can understand. I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Human Computer Interaction.
Hobbies:
In my free time, I like to learn about web development and working with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. I am also taking lessons on drawing and trying to improve my watercolor skills. I have also lately created a garden in my yard. I am currently growing sesame, yomogi, tomatoes, eggplants, and lemons! This is the first time I’m growing a garden so I hope they all survive!
Teaching style:
Before the Covid-19 lockdowns hit, I participated in weekly Japanese-English language exchange meetups, so I have experience in conversational lessons. I realize that each student is different, so the topic of our conversation can be up to you! I will help with achieving a natural flow in conversations and address any pain points you might have such grammar and idioms. I can also help with reading comprehension, where we can go over news articles or anything else you might be interested in and go over any questions you might have and build a conversation around that. I would like to make lessons fun and interesting by focusing on your needs!
