🎯 Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Understand and use 10–12 new English words or phrases from the Intelligent English book.
 
 
Apply the vocabulary in speaking (conversations and mini-presentations).
 
 
Improve recognition of new words when reading.
 
 
 
📋 Materials:
Intelligent English Student’s Book (select unit/topic)
 
 
Whiteboard and markers
 
 
Vocabulary worksheets (matching, gap-fill)
 
 
Flashcards (optional)
 
 
Audio player (if using book listening tracks/youtube/British Council website)
 
 
 
⏰ Lesson Stages:
 
1. Warm-up: Discussion and Guessing (5–7 minutes)
Start with an open question:
 "What new English word did you learn this week?"
 
 
Write students’ ideas on the board.
 
 
(Optional mini-challenge):
 Give quick definitions, students guess the word.
 
 
 
2. Presentation: New Words and Phrases (10 minutes)
Pick 10–12 target words/phrases from today's Intelligent English unit.
 
 
Write them clearly on the board.
 
 
Explain:
 
 
Meaning (in simple English)
 
 
Example sentence
 
 
Related forms (noun/verb/adjective if useful)
 
 
Example:
Word: "achievement"
 ➔ Meaning: something you complete successfully
 ➔ Example: "Graduating from university was a big achievement."
 
 
Drill pronunciation chorally and individually.
 
 
 
3. Controlled Practice: Matching / Gap-fill (10 minutes)
Students match:
 
 
Words to meanings
 
 
Words to example sentences
 
 
OR complete a gap-fill using the new vocabulary.
 
 
Quick check and correction together.
 
4. Reading Practice (Optional, 10 minutes)
Short text from the Intelligent English book containing the new words.
 
 
Students:
 
 
Read quickly for general meaning.
 
 
Highlight or underline the new vocabulary.
 
 
Fast pair discussion:
 "What new word did you notice in the reading?"
 
5. Speaking Practice: Small Dialogues (10 minutes)
Students work in pairs.
 
 
Create a short dialogue using 5–6 of the new words.
 
 
Example topics:
Meeting a new coworker
 
 
Planning a weekend trip
 
 
Talking about a personal goal or achievement
 
 
You can give them starter sentences to help if needed.
 
6. Vocabulary Game: Word Race or Memory Challenge (10 minutes)
Split class into teams.
 
 
Call out a definition — students race to say the word.
 
 
OR: Give the word — students must give a correct sentence using it.
 
 
Small prize or points to make it fun.
