Health Vocabulary (Intermediate/Intermediate Plus)
Description
This lesson will look at vocabulary related to health, exercise, beauty treatments and hairstyles. This class will be aimed at Intermediate/Intermediate Plus level.
Warmer: The first task that will happen in this lesson will be a spot the difference exercise. The student will be presented with two pictures and they will have to compare and find the differences between the two pictures. This will give me an idea of what the student already knows regarding exercise/gym vocabulary. This exercise will last 1-2 mins.
Reading: Before the reading exercise, I will ask the students some questions about exercise. Then I will present a text to the student. The text will be a brochure about a spa. After reading this text, I will test the student on some of the vocabulary in the text and will get the student's overall opinion on the spa. This exercise will take 5 mins.
Vocabulary: Here I will give the student two exercises. Both exercises will require the student to match the new vocabulary to pictures. The first part will look at vocabulary related to exercise and equipment. The second part will focus on vocabulary related to beauty treatment. There will be 18 new words here for the student to learn. I will help the student along with any problems he/she may have. I will also give more new vocabulary depending on the strength of the student. This part of the lesson will last 10-15 mins.
Speaking: Here I will have a conversation with the students regarding health, exercise and overall wellbeing. I will ask 5-8 questions here with the aim of the student using the vocabulary they have just learned. Again, this part of the lesson will take 15 mins.
Vocabulary: The next part will focus on hair vocabulary. Again the student will match the vocabulary with the pictures. The student will be presented with 15 new words here. Again, I will be on hand to help the student complete the exercise and answer any questions he/she may have. Again this will take 15 mins.
Cooler: I will present the student with pairs of new vocabulary learned in the lesson. The student will have to explain the difference between the words that I will present. It will tell me if the student learned and is able to explain the differences between some of these new words. This will take 5-8 mins.
Learning Outcomes:
1. The student will be able to tell what certain gym equipment and exercises are in English.
2. The student will be able to use vocabulary related to beauty treatments and hair/hairstyles.
3. The student will be able to discuss questions and have a conversation realted to exercise, beauty treatments and hairstyles.
4. The student will be able to explain the differences between these new vocabulary.
